February Issue 2010

The Railsport Games has named the Railway Benefit Fund (RBF) as its charity for the 2010 event.

Says David Franks, a keen supporter of the games, ‘Railsport is delighted to support the Railway Benefit Fund (RBF), the charity that has been supporting railway people and their families in the UK for a very long time.

'This year our association with the charity is to help expand awareness of the work RBF does. In future years we would very much like to help raise cash that can be used to support our colleagues that may fall on difficult times and need help.’

RBF chief executive, David Allen, is delighted to be linked with the Games. ‘Like the rail industry itself, Railsport and the RBF have had to change with the times, whether those times bring nationalisation, privatisation or recession.
'Ironically, although there are today many organisations offering assistance to those in need, the demand for our help has not gone away. In fact, although we give support to over 500 railway people every year, sadly, the demand for our assistance is greater than that we can provide.
'I am sure that our association with the Railsport Games will spread the word of our work still further and help us raise the money we need to carry on.’
