Staffordshire’s Churnet Valley Railway plans panto-style Christmas experience

Listen to this article

The Churnet Valley Railway in Staffordshire is pressing ahead with plans to make this year extra special for children and their families.

A panto-style experience will include the usual trimmings, decorated carriages, hot chocolate and cookies and every child receiving a gift. However, this year, the festive fun-filled train ride has been adapted to a theatrical adventure. Boarding at Froghall, Santa’s elves and helpers will assist families to their designated seats before embarking on a return steam train journey along the valley.

It is soon discovered that the main man, Santa himself has missed the train, so the not-so-helpful elves announce the new destination as the North Pole, in search of Santa. While that search takes place, children will be entertained by the festive elves and served refreshments until the train arrives at the Northern Lights.

Arriving at the North Pole, Santa is found and Christmas is once again on track! On the return journey to Froghall Station, Santa visits each child, who will receive a gift to remember the day.

The Santa and Steam Adventure will take place from 21 November – 24 December 2020, running on selected dates and departing Froghall station. Visit www.santaandsteam.co.uk for full details
