The RailStaff Awards’ Safety Team or Person Award shines a light on those who go the extra mile to boost safety in their organisation, build a strong safety culture, and deal swiftly with antisocial behaviour. Each and every person nominated plays a critical role in helping the railway run safely and smoothly.
Paula Hilliard of Network Rail stood above the competition at this year’s ceremony, taking home the coveted prize.
Safety Leader Paula has over 25 years of experience in the rail industry, dedicating her career to improving safety culture and protecting colleagues, service providers, and the travelling public.
Having responded to major incidents including Hatfield and Potters Bar, Paula has also led award-winning electrical safety campaigns, developed innovative training initiatives, and championed the Make a Challenge, Save a Life program. Her expertise, leadership, and commitment have made her a transformative figure in rail safety, and a deserving winner of 2025’s Safety Team or Person Award.
This year’s award was sponsored by HALOS Body Cameras, a global provider of bodycam hardware and software that’s proven across industries from private security and retail to transportation and logistics. HALOS’ technology is designed to excel in today’s most dynamic environments, including mass transit networks, which have become hotspots for crime
Presenting the award, HALOS CEO Andy Ring said: “While tech can add a critical layer of protection, we recognise that no product can surpass the vigilance of a well-prepared safety professional or team. That’s why HALOS is proud to champion the RailStaff Awards, celebrating the unsung heroes who keep our rail networks secure.”
Highly commended
